Silence a cure for the stresses of today

When I used to go wilderness canoeing I was always impressed by the peace. I could hear the wind, the water and the birds but there were no voices or horns or traffic. After a week I would come home refreshed. I have come to understand my rejuvenation was a result of the silence.

Our lives are filled with busyness, needless chatter, social media, news and so forth. We can no longer hear ourselves.

Many people feel anxious as they try in vain to control the endless stream of noise and distractions.

I recommend silence. If you find yourself drowning in noise take an hour a day in silence. While you may not hear the rustle of pine needles in the trees or hear the loons, you will feel rejuvenated and rested.
